Travelers to Europe (Google "Visa" plus the names of other countries of interest) from Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand and the United States:
- Visitors must have a valid passport.
They don't need a prior visa for a visit three months or less.
- A visa is added to the passport on arrival.
- For stays in Europe longer than three months, visitors must check the Schengen Rules (EU Summary.) It might be necessary to leave the Schengen Area for 3 months or get a longer visa from one of the Schengen countries. Check the visa requirements of the country itself.
Requirements for Visas for visitors entering the United States are divided into many types, depending on the type of travel purpose involved.
Types of visas to the US include:
- Tourist Visa Requirements - The visitor visa is for persons desiring to enter the United States temporarily for pleasure, tourism or medical treatment (B-2).
- Travel Without a Visa - Foreign citizens traveling for visitor visa purposes only, from certain eligible countries, may also be able to visit the U.S. without a visa, through the Visa Waiver Program if they meet requirements, including having a valid Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) approval.
- Citizens of Canada and Bermuda traveling on a visitor visa don't need a visa, with some exceptions.
- Business Travel - The business visa is for persons entering the United States temporarily for business purposes(B-1)
- Student Visa - Foreign citizens who come to the U.S. to study or participate in an exchange program can get a student visa.
- Temporary Work visas include:
- Foreign nationals with extraordinary ability in Sciences, Arts, Education, Business or Athletics (O visas)
- International cultural exchange visitors (Q visas)
- Intra-company transferees (L visas)
- Nurses coming to health professional shortage areas (H1-C)
- Performing athletes, artists, entertainers (P visas)
- Specialty occupations in fields requiring highly specialized knowledge (H-1B)
- Temporary agricultural workers (H-2A)
- Temporary workers performing other services or labor of a temporary or seasonal nature (H-2B)
- Training in a program not primarily for employment (H-3)
